Zombies!

Had I written them down, I would have a whole treasure trove of interesting dreams to put to prose. Alas, the only one I have for you is my most recent dream. It's about relatively apathetic zombies! That, and relatively apathetic survivors. Enjoy?

______
Dream:
This all begins in a strange town to which I have never been. It is evening, just around dusk. I am in a cluttered hallway with some people, most of which I don't know. As it is getting to be time to leave, I gather my things together and head for the doorway and pause at the top of the steps before venturing out onto the street. The road is wide in the center of town, and the building is on the corner of an intersection at what seems to be the town square.

I look around, and there are over a hundred people milling around in the streets. There isn't any traffic at all, so I head for the center of the street on foot and when I get to the middle, I center myself and keep walking down the street. This is when I notice that most of the people milling around are zombies! I am walking almost within arms reach of some of them, but I don't seem to be of major concern to them. The scattered normal people also seem to be wandering with a similar daze.

A group of people I know come running up fast from the direction I was heading. I ask them what they are doing here and exclaim that they are in danger for coming to this town because of the zombies. I suddenly decide that we aren't safe any more, and assert that we should get indoors. We start running back towards the building whence I came, which alerts the zombies and some of them decide to chase us. When we get back to the building, instead of going inside it, the people I am with decide to go beside the building and climb a series of three terraced retaining walls, each about 4 or 5 feet high. I tell them that it would be safer for us to go inside but none of them listen, so I decide to stay with the group for strength in numbers.

After we climb up onto the second and third terraces, we catch our breath and most of the zombies stop caring. This is also the same time that the others in my group become more apathetic as well. There are at least five of us, maybe six, and only two of us are male. Some of the girls climb into an open window of the building I previously said we should hide in. Unfortunately, there is a zombie in there who attacks one of the girls but leaves the other alone. It was really strange to see the apathy between the living and the undead. I am the only one who is really making an effort to better my situation.

I somehow defeat the zombie in the window, and after securing that room, I return to the terrace to see the other guy with us climbing down to street level. I try to get him to climb back up, but he only decides to when it is too late. I look for something I can use, and I find a large solid chunk of yellow plastic the size of a large photo album and use it to attack the zombie on the street, who is trying to pull this guy back down. My defensive weapon is insufficient, so I concentrate on trying to pull him back up. He isn't very cooperative, so I decide to give him up for lost because he obviously doesn't seem to care that much. [This is when everything dissolves and I soon wake up.]

Have fun figuring THAT one out! Apathetic Zombies... that must be what I think of society in general or something.
