Remembering the Rain
Last night and over the course of the morning I could hear the rain falling on the roof. It has been weeks since we last had any rainfall and I was glad that I could lie awake and listen. For me it was a special treat, especially in the early morning when I heard rolls of thunder and continuous pouring rain... and it blended in with my dreams.
______
Dream:
I was visiting someone I knew at a nearby college campus on a hot and humid afternoon at the end of spring semester. I had just entered their on campus apartment and I guess one of the roommates had already moved out. Whoever it was left most of their things behind, so I went up to browse and salvage parts of their DVD collection.
It was starting to get stormy outside, and the sky clouded over. It began to rain and storm with a mighty wind, and I thought I heard a siren outside. I turned on the TV to check and see what was going on, and it said there was a tornado warning directly south of where we were, perhaps a mile or two away, and it was tracking almost straight north, towards us!
I looked out the window hoping I could catch a glimpse. Through the wind and rain all I could see were the gray clouds, but after a few seconds, I did see a dark thin wisp of cloud in the distance. It appeared to be getting wider, but I knew it was in fact getting closer every second. When it got too close to the college campus I decided it was time to get downstairs. I think there were only three of us there at the time, and since there was no basement, we just went to the lowest level.
I was trying to think of where it would be safest down there, and the building started to shake. I slid a window open a few inches and the air pressure equalized, and the shaking stopped. There was a closet under the staircase which I went into and pushed all the junk to one side. We took the cushions off the couches to cover ourselves while the tornado approached the very building we were in. Someone said that it was getting wider, thus losing power and windspeed. It was almost over.
_________
I had one or two other interesting dreams last night, but I did not write them down because I figured I would remember them anyway. Alas, that usually never happens.
